PAINTING WITH LIGHT: ILLUMINATING THE SKIN WHEN THE DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY DOESN’T!

How often have you gone on set having created an amazing make-up only to find that the director of photography has lit the room and not the actor? For Siân Richards, it has happened a million times. So much so that she now often paints light into the skin to counterpoint it. This is a vital skill to have and, in particular, when you are working with darker skin tones.

For those of you who know Richards’ work, you know that she is well versed in creating make-ups on darker skin tones and in the wake of having situations like this to solve. She wants to enable you to elevate your artistry and cross over into the light! You can see examples of some of her work if you watch Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Message from the King as Chadwick Boseman’s personal make-up artist, Bessie for HBO as personal for Queen Latifah—and Cloud Atlas as personal to Halle Berry.
