Battle of the Brushes Rules


Eligibility
To be eligible for Battle of the Brushes 2018, entrants must be current students of a recognized make-up school or have graduated from a recognized make-up school no longer than one year prior to the competition he or she wishes to enter. Students who graduate from more than one make-up program are not considered eligible.
Beauty/Fantasy Competition
- One model per competitor.
- No assistants will be permitted. The competitor must apply all make-up by him/herself.
- Models in the fantasy competition must be female.
- Models must arrive with no make-up on prior to the start of the competition. If models arrive with make-up on, they will be required to remove it.
- Hair and wardrobe may be done in advance, but hair is worth up to five extra-credit points, so if it is done in advance, competitor will not qualify for the extra credit.
- Talking will not be permitted during the competition unless it aids the make-up artist in application of make-up to the model.
- All competitors must supply their own make-up.
- Nudity is not allowed. If you are not sure if your design will comply, contact the show management for approval.
- Prosthetic appliances are not allowed. Bald caps are allowed, but they will be treated as wardrobe.
- Each competitor must be a current student or recent graduate (within last 12 months) from a recognized school. You will need to provide a letter from school.
Judging
Decisions made by competition judges are and will remain final.
- Competitors’ make-up will be judged based on the following criteria: Reflection of Theme, Design, Application Technique, Use of Color and Overall Presentation. Hairstyling is worth up to five extra points.
- Each criteria will be worth a possible 10 points, with a score of one being the lowest and ten being the highest.
- Costumes will not be judged.
- First, Second and Third Place will be awarded in each themed category.
Character/Prosthetic Competition
- One model per competitor.

- All appliances used will be provided by IMATS.
- Outside foam appliances are not permitted—with the exception of a bald cap or lace hair pieces.
- Models must arrive with no make-up on prior to the start of the competition. If models arrive with make-up on, they will be required to remove it.
- Hair and wardrobe may be done in advance, but hair is worth up to five extra-credit points, so if it is done in advance, competitor will not qualify for the extra credit.
- Models must be prepared to show a “before” photo of themselves on the day of the competition. (Points will be deducted if photo is not supplied.)

Additional Information
Competitors will share an eight-foot table with one other competitor. The following will be provided at each competitor’s station:
- Lighted station with mirror
- One chair for the model
- One wastebasket
- Electrical outlets
Should a problem arise, please notify the Competition Official. Please note: Failure to follow Make-up Competition rules, regulations, and guidelines may result in disqualification from the competition.
