A Whiplash of Nostalgia: ‘Thriller’ Reunion Panel at IMATS L.A.
You’re not going to want to miss the thrilling panel we have set for IMATS L.A. 2018.
Join us as Paul Davis sits down with director John Landis and special make-up effects designer and creator Rick Baker and others to discuss the conception, shooting, make-up effects and lasting legacy of the music video for Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
The groundbreaking music video was written and produced by Landis. The video forever changed the concept of music videos and gathered, along the way, multiple awards and accolades, such as the Video Vanguard Award for the Greatest Video in the History of the World.
Landis has had a wildly successful career with directing credits for films such as The Blues Brothers, Trading Places, Spies Like Us, Coming to America and An American Werewolf in London (which he also wrote), Three Amigos! and many more.
Interestingly, Davis’ first film he directed was the 2009 feature documentary Beware the Moon, on the making of An American Werewolf in London. So, it is fitting these two award-winning filmmakers discuss the seminal video that has been thrilling audiences since its release in 1983.
But wait! Baker also worked on An American Werewolf in London as the make-up artist! Talk about six degrees … And in ’83, Baker’s make-up magic came to life on the set of … you guessed it: Thriller. Over the course of his career, Baker has won seven Oscars, seven Saturn awards, three BAFTAs and an Emmy, among many other honors.
The panel will be held Saturday, Jan. 13, with time TBD.
