Bastien + Body Painting = Bedazzlement!
When it comes to body painting, the canvas is so unique, and we are always so inspired by creations we see at IMATS. Last year, Alexandra Bastien created decorative and verdant works that were ethereal and naturalesque. But this year, Bastien will change gears. And we’re really excited!
Bastien will create two works of art at IMATS Toronto this year. On Saturday, her work (painting for 24 hours so she will begin the Friday before) will feature the most important music icons of our time (Kurt Cobain, Prince, David Bowie, Michael Jackson and more). She is planning to create more than 10 realism portraits on her model.
On Sunday, she will paint characters from the best horror movies of our time! Model will be Dimitri Diaz. Bastien will use Mehron products and will paint at Mehron’s booth all weekend, so people can come and meet her from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
What Bastien is doing with body painting—the realistic portraits via performance art—is unique and adventurous. The ultra-layered effect (sometimes up to 50 layers of make-up) creates an ultra-realistic look with impeccable details no matter how close you stand.
What makes Bastien so fun to watch in action is that she loves what she does, and says, “Being a body painter is like being a merchant of happiness. Each time I display my tributes, there is always a big impact and people are moved, and that is one of the reasons why I do it.”
The versatility of what Bastien is doing is so unique. And has to be seen to be understood. Don’t miss her at IMATS Toronto!
Bastien will be on the IMATS Stage on Saturday, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m.
