In this unique master class, Rod Maxwell takes you on a journey from sculpting to moldmaking, to mixing and pouring your very own custom prosthetics. No prior experience needed.
This is a two-part class with NO break in between. Get there early and be ready for an intense workshop!
Part 1: Informational
The presentation covers different moldmaking and casting techniques used by special make-up effects artists over the years, including materials used for molds (stone, epoxy, fiberglass and silicone) and appliances (foam latex, gelatin, Pros-Aide cream and silicone). This part of the class concludes with a peek into Rod’s pioneering work creating prosthetics in virtual reality using Oculus Medium together with Pixologic’s ZBrush.
Part 2: Hands-on
Please wear comfortable clothing that you wouldn’t mind getting dirty (just in case of accidental spillage of casting/molding materials in class).
Learn how to sculpt flat-mold prosthetics, even if you’ve never sculpted a day in your life. Make a mold of your sculpted prosthetic in silicone rubber. Pour your very first prosthetic with skin-safe silicone in your very own silicone mold, which you can then take home to cast your own prosthetics time and time again!
