Anabel Vargas is an award-winning international make-up artist and educator. She works in print, commercials, video production and film. Her work has been featured on MTV, Good Morning America, NBC, Telemundo, TV Land, Access Hollywood and E! Online. Some of the most beautiful faces in the world have benefited from her creative style and technique. With her husband, she owns and operates the Vargas Beauty Arts Academy, the Vargas Photography Studio and Vargas Beauty & Arts Pro Store.
Oscar winner Barney Burman (Star Trek) is the president, founder and artistic director of B2FX, a creature and character design company. Burman and his team provide make-up effects for the TV show Grimm; other credits include a Radio Shack Super Bowl ad, Teen Wolf, Star Trek Into Darkness, H8RZ Haters, Alias, Scrubs, Chuck, Medium Blades of Glory, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, Mission: Impossible III and Tropic Thunder. Burman has also produced the genre films Voodoo Possession, Piranha Sharks and Haunting of Cellblock 11.
Battle of the Brushes
The competition is open to students of a recognized make-up school and to those who have graduated 12 months prior to the competition date. Eight competitors will be selected for each competition. Cash and/or prizes will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place winners for each competition. To qualify, you must fill out and send us the entry form, along with 8-10 photos of different looks you have done. Photos don't have to represent the make-up you plan to enter in the competition. All entries, photos and artwork become the non-returnable property of Key Publishing Group.
The character/prosthetic competition takes place on Saturday. Competitors will be given prosthetics on the day of competition, which they must incorporate into their designs. The time limit for the character competition is three hours. No outside prosthetics are allowed, only the ones supplied by IMATS. Our 2015 character/prosthetic theme is Age Make-up Challenge.
The beauty/fantasy competition takes place on Sunday, and the time limit is two hours. Our 2015 beauty/fantasy theme is Historical Beauty Trends.
Native New Yorker Dani Fonseca brings more than 15 years of extensive knowledge and experience from the fine art, theater and fashion industries to her business. She has also taught thousands of beginning and professional make-up artists worldwide as a guest instructor at the Make Up For Ever Academy New York and Hong Kong, the Academy of Freelance Makeup, The School of Makeup Art, Complexions and The School of Professional Makeup.
Eve Pearl is a five-time Emmy winner, author and beauty authority. A leader in high definition beauty, Pearl and her work have appeared on The View, Today, Good Morning America, Live with Kelly & Michael, Saturday Night Live,

Gina Bettelli started her career in 2000 as an Estée Lauder make-up artist and worked as a M.A.C. senior artist in San Diego for six years. She has done photo shoots, TV segments on make-up trends, make-up tips for newspapers and magazines and make-up for celebrities including Andie MacDowell, Paula Patton and Fergie. She has worked on Oscar week, Cirque du Soleil, the Sundance Film Festival and international fashion shows and film festivals.
Linda Preston is a well-established film and television make-up artist. Her most recent job has been make-up department head on Reign. She also has worked on Covert Affairs, Alphas, King and many more. Preston has headed up many movies of the week for Hallmark, Lifetime and Disney, besides working on independent films and commercials. She keeps up with current trends and is always learning new techniques. Her true passion is working on period projects.
Randy Daudlin is a professional make-up artist with more than 30 years’ experience. He has also been an instructor, writer, director and most recently, international author. Daudlin has directed two feature films and published three out of the kit make-up effects reference books: Hurt ‘Em Reel Good - 2nd Edition

Celebrity make-up artist Sébastien Tardif’s work has taken him to New York, London, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Tokyo and beyond. For more than 17 years, he has beautified celebrities including Naomi Campbell, Nelly Furtado, Jane Fonda and Olivia Palermo. He has led make-up direction for more than 100 fashion-week shows in New York and internationally, and his signature illuminated make-up has appeared in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Elle.
Siân Richards is a second-generation U.K. make-up artist. After art school, she studied make-up to fulfill her childhood ambition to be a make-up artist. Twenty-four years later, she has traveled the globe, doing make-up ranging from editorial to movies to special make-up effects. She won the 2013 Critics’ Choice Award for Best Makeup for her work on Halle Berry in Cloud Atlas

Surprenant has also been part of two Academy Award-winning make-up crews and has received a Make-up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Award. He has contributed to Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials
